I'm currently in the market for a BMW 435i. I'm looking mostly for performance and I don't really have a preference between the two but I've read the Gran Coupe is .1 sec slower on the 0-60 because it weighs 100+ lbs more than the regular coupe. Now I can deal with .1 seconds on the 0-60, but I've also heard the Gran Coupe is much slower than that. I got my numbers from the BMW website, but I'm looking for opinions of people who have experienced or just know how much slower is the Gran Coupe. Another thing, I'm aware of the basic N55 problems, but what are things to watch for to make sure I get one that was in good shape and taken care of? Thank you all for your help in advance

How about you drive both and feel which one fits you best?
You worry about .1 second? Watch out for someone with proper proper tires on their 428, and you might be left behind after first curve.

If only it were that easy, I'm from a small town and I would have at LEAST a 5 hour drive to get to one of the cars, one way. Like I said, I'm not worried about it being .1 seconds slower. I'm asking if it's true. I don't want to get into a Gran Coupe just to find out its way slower than a coupe.

There is no such thing as "way slower." What are your practical needs? Look at that deciding between these two cars. They are basically same vehicle so performance will be in the ballpark.
Also, you said you are familiar with weaknesses? What do you know about N55? Are you DIY? Bcs. if not, and small town, you might have hard time finding good mechanic.

Yes I am DIY. I will be moving to a larger city in about a year for college, so as long as nothing major goes wrong in a year, I can do maintenance and repairs. I also have access to a car trailer if need be. As long as they are the same ballpark I'll be ok, that was my only question was if the numbers I had were right. I know the Oil pan gaskets tend to go bad along with the valve cover gasket. Charge pipe cracks easily, already planned on getting a metal one. As far as I'm aware as long as they have regular oil changes, they are less susceptible to the gasket problems. I'm also looking for cars below 50k miles, and I thought these problems tend to happen around 70-80k. I'm here to learn.

Keep an eye on oil filter housing gasket. That one must be changed ASAP, otherwise seeps on belt or tensioner, belt snaps, gets sucked in through front cranks seal=game over!!!
After changing OFHG you must prime oil pump, otherwise you will be shopping for new rod bearings.
Water pump!

The car I'm looking at is actually currently being gone through by certified BMW techs at a BMW Dealership. I will have them check the OFHG and replace it if it needs. I will also have them check the water pump. I'm sure as techs for BMW they know the weak points, but I'll make sure they have been checked

OFHG is 30-50k item. It will go bad again if it is bad now.
Water pump is electric. It starts failing, there are no mechanical signs.
